Tomorrow is my first-ever job fair, and as it happens, I forgot my perfect grey J. Crew blazer at home. I don't own anything that would necessarily count as business attire — I would instead take the liberty of describing what workplace-appropriate dress I do wear as "business attire's little sister who wants extra Tabasco in her Bloody Mary and reads the style section before the front page of the NY Times."
So I'm taking a page out of the Chanel Fall/Winter '11 show, a look that's buttoned-up but still chic. I'm wearing a knee-length (see! Totally appropriate!) tiered black pencil skirt, a cowl-neck-inspired blouse, and my grey suede J. Crew pumps. And tights (sigh, in April) because I must (read: the career counselor woman told me I had to). This ensemble isn't necessarily buttoned-up, but I'm wearing all neutrals and those godforsaken tights in an effort to compensate for my shameful lack of power-woman blazer. Really, I need my mother, who always waited for me at the bottom of the stairs so she could order me to go back up and roll my school uniform skirt back down.
Wish me luck!

Everyday I struggle with how to put together a professional outfit for work that is still fun and fashionable!
So far I have realized what really works is sticking to very classic and elegant pieces like you have done! There are some days when I don't feel like a blazer and being really feminine. So as long as I choose items that have classic and professional hem lines and cuts, it all works out. And classic accessories! I love adding jewelry!
Your mama taught you well! Got a great professional attire selected. You'll stand out as the perfect example ( the NOT completely boring black suit and NOT the girl who has no idea how to dress for occasions.)
Have fun!
Look at this gorgeous outfit... I love! I love!
Happy Wednesday Darling! xo
This is awesome! And go back up and roll your skirt down, there I said it for your mom.
Good luck today! Your outfit sounds professional and classic. As for the tights, 'sigh' is right, in California it's practically unheard of.
I feel like I'm an interview professional, good or bad, either way I've had my handful of experiences with them. Taking in everyone's outfits, good and BAD.
You're on the right track and a step to the side from the ordinary, boring suit look. Good work!
GOOD LUCK!

Good luck! I think this looks like a perfect outfit. I never know how formal an organization is, so don't wear skirts/dresses often for interviews as some do require stockings. Can't wait to hear how it goes! :)
Good luck with the job fair. the outfit you picked is perfectly professional. The black and grey are very classy and elegant colors, which makes this appropriate for the interview.
haha love your sense of humor. and LOVE that outfit.. i am definitely of the belief that corp. america needs an infusion of style!
